If you know nothing about trunking and want to learn all about how it all
works then there is a bit to it, but if you really just want to listen and
see whats on the grn then there are plenty of tutorials on the net on how to
program up the grn or people may even give you an empty 996 programming file
to upload to your scanner depending on whether you purchase ARC996 or use
the free USAD software.
Programming trunking is far easier via software rather than pushing buttons
on the scanner.

Post by Andrew KennaThe only Emergency Services in Newcastle that use APCO25 are the Police and
they are encrypted, so if thats your only thing why you want to upgrade your
scanner then forget it.
If however you want to monitor NSWFB or RailCorp Transits or many of the
other GRN users then its money well spent
I have an interest in monitoring the GRN so I'll look into that. Their
is still plenty of other local frequenices I can monitor besides the
Police.
How difficult is the UBCD996T to program ? I heard that trunking takes
a bit of setting up.
