Seeking HT recommendations...

I've owned very few hand helds, and never really kept up to speed on what
the 'best' ones are.

But now that I own an ATV and go to some very remote locations by myself,
I've been thinking it might be an idea to have some form of communication
with me. There is no mobile phone coverage here, save for some very
specific locations - usually on mountain tops only.

Hence the HT idea.

The ATV runs a 12V system however, so I suppose I shouldnt rule out some
non-HT options. At this stage I have no idea where to mount or store one
though... I'll probably fit some kind of waterproof box or similar
eventually.

Ideally I want at least 5W output on UHF CB, even better if broadband
enough to cover 2m and 70cm (but not absolutely essential).
Weather/water resistant and be able to connect an external antenna and
perhaps headset. Oh... and built-in GPS would be terrific! :)

Anything that needs modding to achieve the above is usually fine by me.

Some of the cheap Chinese stuff on fleabay might be okay? Mind you, I no
longer have a paypal acc, so I can't (and won't) buy from overseas
buyers, so would have to be source within au.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

for mobiles
GME TX4600 is water proof to 1metre
GME TX4800 is a commercial water proof VHF that covers 2metres band

I would think a couple of Amateur radios have a GPS interface for APRS
put how weather proof they are I don't know

you would probably have to check out some Kenwood, Icom and Yaesu
product lines(dual banders)and check their water proof specs

Uniden has the only CB I know of with GPS, or I should say a GPS with
UHF CB built in, both in mobile and hand held
