Scanning is dead.

As evidenced by the lack of traffic in this Newsgroup.

No wonder so many scanners are being offloaded onto ePay.

I don't know about that. Personally I got fed up with all the nuffers that
flooded this NG with crap. Occsionally there is some sensible postings
Besides there are plenty of other places for scanning talk.

and they are all being bought
so it stands to reason that the number of people using scanners is not
diminishing much huh
and new scanners are still being bought

Radio in general seems to be dying with the exception of high speed
data.

I think though that what you're observing is as much Usenet dying as
anything though.

That being said, the Police going encrypted has spoiled the scanning
hobby for me considerably. I'm now denied an incredibly valuable
resource that I used to learn about my local area. I'd learned to
develop quite a deal of respect for the police listening to their day
to day activity. All gone.

Really Police comms was boring, all of the interesting stuff was either done
via mobile phone or via MDT... The really interesting stuff disappeared
years ago when they introduced encrypted channels for the various state
crime command groups and the SPG related stuff.

Agree in general. Here in VK7, things are not so bad re: encryption -
not yet anyway.

Perhaps my level of expectation is calibrated differently but I
suppose you're right; those sorts of operations would be more
interesting in some ways.

I find little else in Sydney very interesting to listen to. The
airport is probably my staple now. Happy to hear your suggestions for
what I should give another go.

In summer the RFS makes interesting listening.

That's somewhat less relevant to me than it would have been a few
years ago when I lived at Mt Colah, but I'll give that a try. Thanks.

As boring as it sounds
the Passenger train freqs can be entertaining
there is quite a lot of stuff going on around rail lines and all that
happens is usually reported over the air

That's a good idea. I'll give that another shot too.

Do I know you from IRC?

There are still the old analogue phones for local gossip, but point

I tend to disagree. I've noticed traffic on most newsgroups has steadily
decline in the past 18 months in particular.

:No wonder so many scanners are being offloaded onto ePay.

Because they can't listen to the (IMO boring) cops anymore.
