I LOVE playing with software and radio connections, even RX is fine.

Got a RX All Mode that'll do 30KHz to 470MHz [not continuous] in a few
bands.

What modes other than acars, pocsag are there to monitor via software.

Am currently playing on 30KHz using "Spectran" free software, does digital
sigs too.

Am not getting much yet as i only started today and am getting the feel of
the new software.

Anyother modes worth listenning to please?

cheers Rod

you can decode the low resolution weather satellite images
listen in the 137MHz area
Not sure of the freq of the NOAA sats, I think 137.5 was one. the other
one maybe 137.1
they are FM and your radio may default to AM so you need to set it to FM
I used to use a program called WXSat
this is an Image i decoded using my PRO-2005 scanner and WXSat
Loading Image...
the WX sats use a 30Khz wide bandwidth(if your 706 has this bandwidth it
will get better pics than I did)
You will also need a Satellite prediction program(they are free) so you
know when the Sat is coming overhead
on my page there is a bit of info about other decoding programs
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~kevcat/kevs_scan_page.htm
Also you can decode HF fax Marine weather charts
Amateur SSTV pictures

I would suggest you search and download Bonito's RadioCom 5.1 or
later(look on the Torrents or the Edonkey/Emule servers(I know it's on
Emule))
this will control your 706 and it also decodes HF data signals

Ty Kev,
Been doing wx sats for some years and thoroughly enjoy it. im still active
in tx/rx sstv [14236 mostly via the vk5 repeater]/psk [14.070 mostly]etc so
it leaves hf fax .

Ill checkout bonito if i can get it,but i use HRD [only amateur modes] and
also Multipsk has wx fax and dgps and navtex [on the wrong side of the world
for navtex LOL.

Ill play with wx fax.

what do you know about Safety Net ? Its the oz replacement for navtex but
different freqs etc im told.

The WX sats im getting beautifull pics for several years now on nothing more
than an unused hf cb vertical ROFL...yes,i use "AM" i get a far better
read.never botherred playing with other filter widths as im getting perfect
pics

Any help with safety net would be appreciated..

Cheers and TY Rod

Blimey! There's a lot! My favourite is Slow Scan Television, look on 14.230
Mhz (usb) and use MMSSTV to decode. PSK31 (14.090) RTTY, Fax, WeFax, CW,
Tor, Amtor etc.

Various progs for decoding, GIYF. (Google is your friend).

Have fun,

Hi Kate,
Ty for responding, yes im heavy into sstv psk and rtty. spent the first 15
years of my ham life on cw only, now i want to play LOL.

wefax is interresting and ive seen it many times while googling. MOST
radio software comes from DXzone under software in the right side menu.

but right now im playing with software defined radio [dxzone menu] and
looking at vlf and ulf. you dont need a radio just d/l "Gram" or "spectran"
and hook an antenna up to the mic input. Im not that far yet tho .im reading
more before i hook a ant directly to the mic input of the soundcard. but
thats what theyre doing and start receiving on 11KHz up. Recording signals
[on the spectran software] then decoding it in other software. Link.
http://wireless.org.uk/software.htm ..

I know its possibly outside the scope of this newsgroup but its
interresting.

cheers Kate. Yes ive been non stop googling ROFL
