I can get tone only but not the alpha numeric messages
I do get some type of garbled message but it might be a foreign language
any help appreciated
If all the text you get is garbled then your sound settings are not right
the little signal metre in the top right corner should go fully to the
other side and stay there for the entire signal, if it drops part way
though you are nor getting a good clear signal
try adjusting your radio volume as well as using the "Windows" audio
properties to adjust the "recording" input level
it's fiddly at first, but once you get it right the first time it's easy
to get right after that
What equipment are you using
Radio
type of audio cable
data slicer(if you have one)
Computer

Hi Kev
Using a realistic pro 2002
Home made cable (as per instructions from PDW site help file mono to stereo
and checked with a multi meter )
home made computer 1100 chip and dual bios AMD 65 I think is the chipset
the majority of messages read "tone only" and only get an occasional
hieroglyphics
I really do think I haven't ticked something somewhere
the freq im using is "148.635"
Wish you were still down here I would come and annoy you at the shop
There is one freq around here that is used by the Hospitals, it has lots
of tone only and the messages are encrypted
Maybe try another, you also need a good strong signal
search between 148MHz to 150Mhz in 12.5Khz steps and find one that has
the strongest signal
Last time I used mine there were only two pager providers operating
Telstra/Link and Hutchins/Orange
Most of the Govt and Emergency depts used the Orange service
I use a 2 level data slicer/level converter connected to the
discriminator output from the radio(simple mod for the Realistic base
radios) and into the serial port on the computers
it gets 100% messages, but a weak signal will get garbled messages
the data slicer schematics are included in the PDW Help files
one other thing
I always use a shielded MONO cable, the shielding helps stop any
unwanted local crap getting into the signal through the audio cable
